dungeon meshi. ahh... dungeon meshi
spoilers under the cut!
IT'S OVER... the final course... and you know, as much as I was hoping for one more little complication to prolong things, I'm also glad it got to end this way. I'll need some time to figure out whether I actually think the story could have benefited from a less straightforward ending or if that's just my "I don't want this to end 😭" brain, but either way I'm full and satisfied right now.
also. I was pretty sure that the winged lion's curse wasn't about Falin, before, but I thought it was still something relatively serious (foolish). The fact that it ended up being "monsters don't want to be anywhere near you" is SOOOO delightfully and quintessentially Dungeon Meshi.
As for Falin herself, I'm SO happy she got to come back a little monstery. It was really cute that she carried the little red dragon with her in her sleep -- a very Falin way to represent what was happening on the outside. And the winged lion appearing to her was so interesting... absent any other bonus story "developments" (Kui says there's going to be "supplemental books" (probably something like the Adventurer's Bible, but still) and "a number of things" for the anime's release 🙏) I think that's a detail I'm going to keep chewing on for a while.
aghhh ok I have to leave for work now. I might come back and add more thoughts to this later though!
