Sep. 4th, 2023 09:23 amI've been watching old Armored Core LPs recently because I'm interested in the newest game (for extremely shallow robot reasons lol) and in retrospect I shouldn't really keep being shocked by this but the combination of these being fromsoft games in the mecha genre means they keep shooting bits of wildly concerning lore right over your head without even a little bit of followup. In these games it only comes in the form of mission briefings instead of item descriptions (there aren't really "items" that you "pick up" like in the soulsborne games, and if the mech parts you can buy in the shop menu have any description beyond their stats none of the LPers I've watched are choosing to display them) or even any cryptic NPCs you can talk to, so it's even more piecemeal and obviously biased than usual.
Mostly this means it's stuff like "hello mercenary we're hiring you to eliminate this squad of ecoterrorists from a power plant on behalf of the megacorporation that owns it" but just now the mission description opened with "The Maghrib Liberation Front is White Africa's largest anti-establishment group" and then said the fortress they were holed up in was "a holdover from the wars of ethnic cleansing"????? The mission was to blow them up but still. good lord
